Good thing he wasn't admitted to the military all those many years ago. If he had he'd have been a better shot and the man would be dead.

See, there is a reason for everything.

Can you imagine the press response if a man had been shot by Al Gore during the Clinton administration? They would've had a field day. Wanna bet they downplay this incident?

I think Cheney is bucking for an early retirement. I'd only fear the possibility that George might replace him with J.E.B.

The doctors at the hospital said the victim would be much better off if cheney hadn't shot the man twice, skinned and field dressed him.

Today when cheney went to visit the victim cheney told the man it was a pure accident and that he was thinking about libby when he pulled the trigger - the victim told cheney "I'll get you - you bastard if it's the last thing I ever do" - to this cheney walked off and replied - "go f**k yourself"

This just in - it is reported that the lawyer who was shot had just handed cheney a bill for his services.

The hunter who was shot is a wealthy Austin lawyer who is currently fighting an eminent domain lawsuit against the city, which took his downtown land for a parking garage.

Harry Whittington has served as chair of the Texas Public Finance Authority Board and is a past member of the Texas Board of Corrections. In 2004, Governor Rick Perry appointed him chair of the Office of Patient Protection Executive Committee. Whittington also serves on the commission governing funeral homes in Texas. Close observers of Texas politics will remember that there was a big dustup about funeral homes and funeral giant SCI (headed by a Bush pioneer) while W was governor, but it appears Whittington came to the board just at the tail-end of that scandal.

It was the victim's fault for walking up on the Veep when the Veep was on a 2nd covey of quail and fixin' to shoot??!! When you're out hunting, you're not supposed to make any sounds, because you'll spook the game. Probably the victim would have been in more trouble than he is now, had he "announced" himself coming up on the Veep and scared the birds off prematurely. I think the Veep should hang up the guns--he evidently can no longer safely hunt, at his age and/or medical regimen.

Hey! The MSM was busting Kerry for taking photo-ops of a hunting trip, remember? I guess when a Republican f***ing SHOOTS someone, the MSM gives them a pass! When Kerry was being covered on TV during a campaing-time hunting trip, we were told by the MSM that it was blatant politicking and he wasn't a real hunter, remember? So, real hunters shoot humans???

Ah, MSM, give them another pass...again...

This is what the 24 hour coordinated MSM "hold" was on the story, Brad. Also, this proves the MSM is "controlled". NOT ONE came out with it before the other. There was a "coordinated hold"...

You should investigate how this works, and who exactly meets from the 6 Corporations and coordinates holding things like this. It's happening right now, it's fresh. SOME people from the 6 corporations got together to hold this for 24 hours. Who are they? Where were they? Was it via videoteleconferencing? All the MSM didn't just happen to hold this story for 24 hours. The scent is fresh, this didn't happen a couple of years ago, like some of the stories they hold.

The 24 hour hold was deciding how to present this on TV..not to just report it. And it had to cross their minds about the Kerry hunting trip during the campaign, and how they maligned him for it.

From AP Harry Whittington, a millionaire attorney from Austin, was in stable condition in the intensive care unit of a Corpus Christi hospital Sunday.

"He is stable and doing well. It was almost like he was spending time with me in my living room," said hospital administrator Peter Banko, who visited Whittington.

Banko said Whittington was in the intensive care unit because his condition warranted it, but he didn't elaborate.

... Fred said on 2/12/2006 @ 8:00 pm PT...

I'm reposting from what I said on http://www.crooksandliars.com since I'd like feedback on some of these questions:

Apparently Cheney thought he was hunting Dan Quail.

I'm amazed at how this is being covered by the press and even liberal

blogs:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/.../cheney_hunting_accident

Hm. A hot tempered man (Cheney) shoots a fellow GOP member who's a

vocal advocate for limited government power. Cheney has every reason to

be upset right now and is known to vent when he isn't happy (Mr. F***

You! on the senate floor). Cheney has a lot of reasons right now to be

unhappy.

So there was a shooting, and the media delays 24 hours and then reports

that it was an accident. Who claimed it was an accident? Cheney?

If you do the geometry, how the heck did Harry Whittington get peppered

in the chest, neck and head? The birds were supposed to be in flight.

I'd expect that he might get hit in the head but not in his chest, (yes

I'm aware of how bird guns scatter). It's possible but it seems a bit

odd.

Does anyone know who the district attorney and prosecutor are for where

Cheney did this shooting? I'm wondering if there will be an

investigation, certainly this warrants one. Even if the victim decides

not to prosecute, an investigation should happen since Cheney is such a

powerful man the victim would naturally feel intimidated. Not to

mention that a shooting was involved.

The blog-sphere needs to identify who the DA and prosecutor are and

contact them to let them know they will be held accountable.

It also makes no sense to blame the victim for this. I've never heard

it said you should interrupt a hunter's shot by "signaling" them when

you are behind the line a fire. It was Cheney's responsibility to know

where the rest of the party was before pulling the trigger. I'm also

surprised that reports say he's alert and responsive but underplay that

he's in "stable", not "good" condition at the hospital.

It seems that Cheney is bulletproof.

-Fred-

Quail don't like to fly. They prefer to walk, usually only fly short distances. They like to keep to low, dense brush. They are very easy to spook... like, uh, blink... in a split second, dozens of them will bolt from cover. Their trajectory is low because their cover is low, and they are ground-hugging birds. It's very startling when they do this. You go from silence to a great flapping and squawking in a heartbeat.

It's VERY fast, and the quail are GONE but now.

Beside the facts that the story of the Vice Presidents hunting accident was held for 24 hours, was not released by the White House but by the property owner, and not to the major media but to the local Corpus Christi paper, one other thing strikes me as a bit odd.

The AP account of what occurred indicates that Cheney's accidental shooting victim was behind him.

Depending on where the quail supposedly flushed from, Vice President Cheney had to have rapidly rotated his position between 90-180 degrees or more in order to shoot someone who was behind him.

There is something a little "Rosemary Woods-ish" about this contortionistic account of the accident. Granted, I am not a hunter. But who shoots at a target that emerges from behind their position, or tracks a target moving in that direction?

Where were the Secret Service Agents standing? Presumably behind VP Cheney as well? Were they close enough to have been hit? Did they file a report? Can we see it?

I strongly suspect that an accidental discharge of Cheney's gun occurred, but that it happened in some other way than has been reported.

Thus the 24 hr delay in reporting the story...time enough to manufacture a version of events and get everyone on the same page to repeat it.

I look forward to reading the transcripts of tomorrows gaggle and press briefing. They should be a real hoot!

We need another article on Eminent Domain and what it means. Particularly since that is what is happening to the Katrina victims. On a site CONSERVATIVE WITHOUT THE PREFIXES the guy wrote shortly after the Katrina tragedy that he has always believed and the law states that you own property even if it is made of matchsticks and under 8 feet of water.

The fact that Eminent Domain was passed by the Supreme Court just months before the Katrina levees broke AFTER THE HURRICANE HAD PASSED New Orleans is something that needs to be stressed and reporting on what is happening to the property of those who are in campsites without FEMA aid or in FEMA Detention Camps under ARMED MILITARY GUARD and the more than 3,000 people in NOLA at the time of Katrina who are still missing without a trace and the same corrupt funeral firm in Gov. GW Bush's Funeralgate who had since been prosecuted for covering up more bodies was hired to dispose of the Katrina victims of this Bush mass murderer and the mention of "Crematoriums"(???!!) by this funeral firm in NOLA after charging to microchip the bodies was never explained either in MSM or liberal blogs.

Don't let this story die like the people of NOLA without any information esp. since the millionnaire attorney who was shot by Cheney was having success in challenging Eminent Domain.

The quail could have been in the brush in front of him, and by the time he could get a shot off in their general direction, which is all you can hope for with quail, he easily could have been turned all the way around. That's why he was using a shot gun. You can't draw a bead on a single bird, in almost all situations, before it's disappeared again.

Eminent Domain has been around forever. The Supremes recently held that forcing property owners to sell so that, say, a shopping mall could be built, constituted public use. It's historically been used for appropriating property for building freeways. Some places have preserved their forestlands by this method. It's brand new that developers can force you out of your home.

Here in the sticks of Idaho where I grew up we started "brushing" qual and deer at age six or seven, and carrying a rifle or shotgun by twelve or thirteen. I can say with all honesty hunting accidents like this are rare. And it is always the responsibility of the shooter to know what he is targeting, and if there is any risk involved. This is extreme negligence on Dicks part to say the least. This kind of mishap happening here would brand a man for life. That man would always be known as the town idiot, and needless to say he would always hunt alone from that day forward.

To think that this man cannot be trusted to hunt with, but he can somehow be trusted with sending men into battle is frightening indeed.

Houston Chronicle web site has interesting article. Armstrong says Whittington was "mostly bruised." But the article mentions after he was initially treated by the medical staff with Cheney he was taken to a hospital in Kingsville, TX and then airlilfted to hosptial in Corpus Christi. (That explains the delay in getting to the Corpus hospital that was mentioned earlier) All this for "mostly bruises?" I understand the hospital in Corpus he went to is the county/public type that has a lot of experience in gunshots wounds.

The article also mentions what seems to be a discrepency between Cheney and the quail being 30 yards away or 100 yards away. www.houstonchronicle.com for more info

I don't know that much about guns, but it seems to me it would be hard to put someone 30 yards away into intensive care with a shotgun. Maybe he had a heart attack from getting sprayed with shot? There isn't anything weird about the height of the shot. Quail rarely fly very high, and rarely fly far. It is a brilliantly fast burst from one place to another. Dense underbrush is their milieu. They like to nest in slash piles. You have to be careful not to burn up their nests in the spring.

It seems to me the victim had to be closer than 30 yards, maybe 30 feet and Cheney had pulled the trigger while pivoting before he noticed his friend coming into the range of the shot burst.

Or. Vice-Fuhrer just got pissed off at his uppity friend.

Yeah, the description of the shooting sounds pretty suspicious; 30 yards away, behind Dick, shot in the chest & face. Even if Dick was shooting at a low flying quail that just broke cover, those facts just don't add up.

Chance are Whittington was no more than 10 yards away, just behind and to the left / right of Cheney, who over reacted to some birds breaking cover, followed them through his sights and blasted away, hittinh Whittington in the process. Given that it happened at approx. 5:30 pm alcohol may have been a factor. The shooting party probably got up, had a good booze-free morning of shooting, broke for a nice long lunch - with a few snorts / beers - and went out again near dusk to finish up the day.

The delay and spin are to cover up the (probable) boozing and to protect the image of the VP as a "manly man", incapable of making such a bone-headed fuck up.

This news story is a red herring. The last thing the White House wants is us paying attention to Libby and Brown singing away and giving up dirty neo-con secrets. Sit on the story for 24 hours and make people think a hunting accident is a cover up for something more incidious.

Hey, Kelly, I was just thinking that this is a dandy way to take some of the heat off the budget atrocities, wiretapping testimony and other things coming to a head this week, but I don't think even Dick would shoot somebody to divert our attention.

I think the birds must have been in a descent from flushing from one place to land in another when he pulled the trigger. Anyone who's read much DeLillo would know that there is a whole lot of boozing and feasting in these quail hunting parties of the rich and famous. It does strike me as odd that AP didn't name the third hunter. Maybe it was Alito this time.

It wasn't Dan Quayle that Cheney shot? Cheney was out quail hunting and shot one of his fellow hunters who wasn't Dan Quayle?

Ooops. Never mind.

BTW, it's not everyday a Vice President (or President) shoots someone.

Hopefully, someone at the hospital where Mr. Whittington was taken collected all the shotgun pellets he was peppered with. Hey, they have historical value...and could fetch a nice price on eBay. Heh, heh.

The mere fact that the place Cheney chooses to kill innocent animals is at a place where these poor birds are cruely packed and stored in the hundreds and their sudden release to fly and feel freedom and joy for the first time are within seconds violently shot out of the sky to appease the egos of small men like Dick Cheney is appauling to me.

I am just disgusted by this. Although anyone who hunts and kills innocent creatures are on my shit list anyway. I had to stop dating someone because he told me that he loved to hunt. When one has to hunt to feed themselves and their families (like back in the 1700's) when there wasn't a massive grocery store on every corner or a large pizza or chinese food just a phone call away, then perhaps hunting could be considered 'necessary' for them.

But to just wake up in the early morning in 2006 surrounded by large stores that PROVIDE FOOD 24 HOURS A DAY, and group together to beat your chests and murder animals for the purpose of increasing one's testosterone levels is inconceivable and unjustified in my mind. You know, just go jack off somewhere.

Cheney and the people with him yesterday didn't even want to give the poor animals a chance to fly away like regular hunters that have to 'guess' where and when the birds might fly...instead he/they went to a ranch where their chances are guaranteed and the odds of killing hundreds of birds in a short amount of time are signigicantly higher, then to me, that serves as confirmation that Cheney has a tiny, tiny penis.

Add to it that he shoots his hunting friend/fellow Millionaire in the face, neck and chest and chooses to keep that secret as long as he possibly could and develop a story that puts the fault in the man that was peppered/sprayed with bullets and sit and wait until a local paper finds out, well then, does one still really have room in their heart for a man like this?

He's an evil, vile, insecure man. Look at that man's satanic-like face. He could probably just look into the birds eyes and they would drop dead.

Cheney: "Did you say 'phun'?"

Clouseau (rising): "This was a serious crimm...you were shooting at Dan Quayle, who was zee president vice for the first Mr. Bush. Right?"

Cheney: "No, not Quayle. Quail, the bird. I was shooting the bird and I got careless."

Clouseau: "Yes, Mr. President vice, I know you care less. I want you to know you vill be under my survey-yance from now on."

Cheney: "You sound French. Are you related to John Kerry?"

Clouseau: "Don't try zat swift-boat stuff with me, Mr. President Vice (picks up phone, which explodes as he begins dialing headquarters)."

Cheney: "I have to go now (turns to leave)."

Clouseau (face covered with soot from exploded phone): "Stop in the lame of the naw!" (points his pistol at Cheney).

Cheney (turns): "Stop in the what?"

Clouseau: "You heard me." (French Foreign Legionnaires enter, arrest Cheney, take him away).

Sounds of Marseillaise in background. Fade out. Clouseau exits through swinging door, which hits him and knocks him to ground.

For Mark: I'd agree with you, except for the fact that they waited 24 hours before reporting it. Teddy Kennedy waited less than half that long to report the Chappaquiddick accident, and he's still catching hell for it 36 years later.

If the reason they didn't report it immediately was that Cheney was "under the influence," would that change your viewpoint? Does that fact that the injuries were originally reported as minor, when in fact the victim was in the ICU in "stable" condition (between fair and serious) not matter?

At the very least, I think people can be forgiven for asking, "What next?" This crew of chickenhawks does literally nothing right, Mark. If humor is best antidote for exasperation, why not use it?

Everything you will be hearing from the administration and friends of the VP will put the VP in the best light. As for the victim, he may be in ICU because of his age. Still, two nights for a guy who is "okay" and joking with the nurses is a long time. We've all been visitors in ICU areas. Have you ever seen anyone there who is OK and kidding with the nurses? I have not.

Will the public be allowed to see him leave the hospital, face cuts and all, or will the White House, protecting the victim's privacy, keep him hidden away until he is healed? Don't want any bad pictures out there.

There's more here than just two old guys out shooting pops and popping shots! The whole thing smells to high heaven. Look at Dick Cheney.....he could barely walk without a cane the last time anyone saw him in public. Whittington may have been in perfect physical shape for his age before the 'accident', but Cheney had serious leg and cardiovascular problems. And, he's out wandering around in a field with a shotgun in his hand! Now I understand that this is a highly ego-centric individual and most likely he does not do what his doctors advise. But this was really stupid. Doctors expect you to take some serious time off to 'get back on your feet'. My son-in-law is a hunter. He, his brother and father all hunt together...or did. Dad is not allowed to go anymore. His eyesight and his legs are failing him...heart, diabetes, etc. The whole family stands in his way of pursuing this line of enjoyment, cause they are afraid he will harm himself or someone else. They are not afraid to say NO. Who acts as a deterent to Cheney's whims? HaHa Fat Chance. Pray that Cheney hangs up that gun because nobody is going to take his manly pursuits seriously after this fiasco. No police, 24 hour delay in reporting a gun accident. THIS COMMENT IS FROM A NATIVE, QUAIL-HUNTING TEXAN WOMAN. I don't buy this story. I've been hunting since I was a child. Do you see that line of hunters in the picture? That is how everybody does it, so that nobody gets shot. You walk parallel at enough distance that birdshot won't hurt. (birdshot is light and very ballistic, but it won't cause damage through a hunting jacket or those wader-type things that they have on. It's been fairly cold the past two weeks. Cold enough that everybody there should have been wearing jackets or coveralls. Armstrong said that Whittington got shot in the front when Cheney pivoted to shoot behind him. There's a couple of problems with that scenario. As the line crosses the field, the quail generally fly AWAY FROM THE HUNTERS which generally means in front of them. Occassionally, a bird gets confused and flies TOWARDS the hunters, but ABOVE THEM. CHENEY WOULD HAVE BEEN SHOOTING UPWARDS, NOT PARALLEL OR DOWN.

SECONDLY, most hunters WEAR VESTS that have loops for their shells IN FRONT! SO, IF CHENEY TURNED AND FIRED AT WHITTINGTON AND THEY WERE THE PROPER DISTANCE AS IN THE PHOTO, THE SHOT WOULD HAVE BOUNCED OFF WHITTINGTON'S VEST AND ITS SHELLS. BUT THIS GUY IS IN ICU (CRITICAL CARE), THAT MEANS PENETRATION BY THE SHOT PELLETS. Cheney could have gotten close enough to penetrate a jacket or hunting vest is to be right up on the guy within 20 to 30 feet where he should have had great visibility. Since nobody hunts quail early in the morning, the visibility is generally very good. (5:30 am is when you drive there or walk out to the field.)

Normally, when people hunt quail, either their dog fetches the birds OR they walk up in a parallel line and then pick up the quail together. If they maintained proper distances on both sides then Whittington would have been too far for the pellets to penetrate his vest on the side... if he was wounded in the side, then the whole "he came up on them story doesn't fly either."

These guys are big time hunters. People who hunt regularly know better than to get in this situation. Peppering occurs once in a while, but that is shot falling down not impelled at high speeds. Usually, if there inexperienced people on the hunt, then somebody gets peppered, but experienced hunters know that and they set larger distances to avoid such accidents.

I do not buy this story, particularly the "treatment at the ranch stuff."

Gina de Miranda

Cheney broke one of the cardinal rules of hunting - NEVER TAKE A SHOT WITHOUT BEING AWARE OF WHAT'S BEHIND THE TARGET.

I come from a family of hunters, where it's not uncommon for kids to be taken on their first hunting trip around 9 or 10. But you better believe safety is the first priority - it HAS to be. And the FASTEST way to get your gun taken away from you is to do something stupid. Like Rod W said in #59 above, doing something like this would brand you for life - NOBODY wants to hunt with someone that careless.

Now granted I've never shot at anything except a target, but if I remember right, the shot used in hunting birds is smaller than a bb. Quail do move pretty quick - and they can scare the bejesus out of you when you flush them up when you're walking.

But to "pepper" this man with shot in the face and chest at 30 yds, and to hurt him bad enough to put him in ICU for a couple days - that sounds like Cheney just swung the gun around in a 180 arc and shot without checking what was behind the target, and hit him directly in the face. An experience hunter would NEVER make that mistake - UNLESS HIS JUDGEMENT WAS SOMEHOW IMPAIRED.

Something smells wrong about this.

I think it's time to disarm the VP, he's not got enough sense to continue with that particular hobby.

A comment by Armstrong, said Whittington didn't get hit in the eyes. She said she was peppered but in the leg.

Also, hunting accidents are reported at the hospital and could be the "delay" in treatment mean't, try to repair the damage first and avoid a hospital. Report to local authorities? You must be kidding ! Don't you know who owns local authorities, not just in Texas.

This just in...it appears that rather than hunting quail, Vice President Dick Cheney was hunting for DAN QUAYLE! Cheney had heard rumors that if the heat got too bad

on the Libby/Plame matter he might be replaced by George W. Bush's father's Vice President, J. Danforth Quayle, so he invited Quayle hunting and accidentally shot him, but Texas attorney Harry Whittington, returning to the hunting party drunk as a waltzin' piss-ant, apparently stepped in front of Quayle and was accidentally shot by the accidental shot.

Former Vice President Quayle stated "I did wonder when Dick told me to wear a brown camoflage-style jacket and a hat with a funny little crest sticking up on top, and had me sit in the bushes doing the bird calls he'd taught me on the drive

to the ranch. Seemed a bit dangerous, you know, like somebody might mistake me for a bird. Did you know there is a bird named after me? I just found out. Who would

think to call a bird 'Dan.' A mind is a terrible thing, isn't it?"

Apparently not as dangerous as getting jacked up on Wild Turkey, like Harry Whittington.

I used to go pheasant hunting with my family years ago. For starters, you start at one side of a field, and walk in a line standing side by side some distance apart from each other to the other end. When you flush the birds, they fly up, and usually away from you, but sometimes in confusion they may go towards you. They certainly wouldn't be behind you because you and the rest of your hunting party have already walked over that ground. There was no reason for Cheney to swing around and shoot at anything behind him, there shouldn't have been anything behind him.

Hunting accidents happen, but I agree with Gina, 1 and 1 don't add up to 2 with this story.

I think Jose just read "Adlai Stevenson" someplace and didn't take into account that the man who later ran for president would have been 13 years old at the time. If he killed a woman with a rifle at that age, it can hardly be equated with Dick Cheney, at age 64/65, seriously wounding someone with one.

If they go back to the 19th century, they can drag out Aaron Burr and Andrew Jackson, or Dan Sickles (though he was a Republican), high-ranking politicians who killed with a gun. But people like Jose really aren't interested in reasoned argument, just bullet-point rejoinders they hear from Limbaugh or someone, post quickly, then hurry back to their radio to catch Rush's latest bullshit.

Hunting accidents do happen, and should really be treated as private and confidential matters.

Can anyone remember the name of the GOP House Representative who argued that principle when President Clinton accidentally fired his loaded weapon onto Monica Lewinski's blue dress at close range?

If Dick Cheney was under the influence when he fired the shotgun (there's no proof that he was, but the delay in notifying authorities in suspicious), then as far as I'm concerned he's guilty of criminal negligence.

What is the difference between driving drunk and firing a shotgun when drunk? If anything, the latter is worse...because a gun is only used to kill, while a car is designed for peaceful use.

Would anyone argue that if Cheney injured someone seriously while DUI, that it should be regarded as a private matter, i.e. "accidents do happen." Not if he was above the alcohol limit. No siree.

No, Annie, Jose was referring to the Adlai Stevenson that was around at the time of Christ. You see? It's OK that Cheney shot someone, because a Democrat at the time of Christ shot someone.

You know, we are soooooo wise to this rightwing tactic, of bringing up something similar a Democrat did, in this case the "supposed" closest thing was something in 1913.

It is like shooting someone with a bb gun. Next all you idiots will want to regulate bb guns being sold.

And maybe the delay was because Cheney was at the hosipital with his friend. But if he was a liberal like you guys he would have just went home and not worried about the gun shot person until the next day... oh no wait that was Ted Kennedy that ran the woman off the road and did not worry about it until the next day. If the gun used in the attack by Cheney was only a BB gun?

Why is the victim STILL in ICU 2 days later?

In any incident where a person is shot by a gun albeit accidently

or maliciously, the incident should have been reported to POLICE

IMMEDIATELY.

The shooter would then be made to give a statement to Police and

both alcohol and drug tests done to ascertain the condition of the gun-handler.

In the very least Cheney should be charged with:

*Dangerous misuse of a firearm,

*Failing to report a potentially fatal incident,

*Reckless endangerment of human beings with a weapon,

*Greivous Bodily harm

and he should be sued for damages both psychological and physical.

Easy kill at 50 feet. Deep holes at 90 feet. Hurts like a sonofabitch at 150. Still picking birdshot out of your rump at 200. That's with a regular load of number 7 shot. Distances vary with shot size and powder load of course.

Bottom line, shooter never shoots in any direction that a clear path has not already been determined. It is always the shooters fault if somebody gets dinged. wildyaker,

You're not paying attention. Cheney's shooting victim is in the intensive care unit (ICU), which means he was in serious condition. From this we can infer that the shot broke the skin, and caused serious damage. If we are to believe you that a birdshot blast is similar to being shot with a bb gun, then we have to conclude that Cheney lied about the circumstances, because the actual damage is more severe than would be expected than being shot by bb's at 30 yards (the distance reported by Cheney). We would have to conclude the Cheney shot him at point blank range! Your failure to understand that makes you look like an idiot. Your calling everyone else an idiot make you look even more like an idiot.

THE FACTS

Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot his hunting partner, mistaking him for a covey of quail. As of this writing, the victim remains in the intensive care unit.

This is the first time since 1804, when Aaron Burr killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel, that a sitting vice president has shot anybody.

The shooting occurred at the Armstrong Ranch in south Texas, about 60 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, where the vice president and several companions were hunting quail. The shooting victim was a 78-year-old man named Harry Whittington, a millionaire attorney from Austin, Texas. Whittington was reportedly 30 yards away from Cheney when he was hit in the cheek, neck and chest. Cheney was using a 28-gauge shotgun. Each of the hunters was wearing a bright orange vest at the time.

According to eyewitness Katherine Armstrong, an owner of the ranch, Cheney, Whittington, and another hunter, later identified as the Ambassador to Switzerland, were patrolling for quail from a vehicle. They spotted a covey of quail and got out of the car to shoot at the birds. Whittington came up from behind the vice president and did not signal or announce himself.

Bush and senior aides were told Saturday night that somebody in the Cheney's hunting party was shot, and Bush was told later the same evening that Cheney was the shooter. Neither the White House nor the vice presidents office reported the shooting to the press or to law enforcement authorities. In Texas, hunting parties are not required to report an accident if nobody dies.

THE TIMELINE

Sat Feb 11 5:50 PM CST VICE PRESIDENT DICK CHENEY SHOOTS HARRY WHITTINGTON. Most news sources state that the shooting took place about 5:30 PM CST. MSNBC, citing the U.S. Secret Service, is more exact, stating 5:50 P.M. CST. This would be about a half an hour before sunset.

Sat Feb 11 5:50-6:20 PM CST WHITTINGTON IS TREATED ON THE SCENE. Cheneys traveling medical detail treats Whittington for half an hour before evacuating him.

Sat Feb 11 6:20 PM CST SOMEBODY CALLS AN AMBULANCE. Whittington is transported to a hospital in Kingsville, Texas, in an ambulance on standby for the vice president.

Sat Feb 11 6:30 PM CST (7:30 PM EST) PRESIDENT BUSH IS TOLD OF THE SHOOTING. Bush and senior aides, including presidential spokesman Scott McClellan, are first told by staff in the Situation Room that there had been an accident in Cheneys hunting party. White House sources say Bush himself was notified by Chief of Staff Andrew Card.

Sat Feb 11 7:00 PM CST (8:00 PM EST) BUSH IS TOLD WHO DID THE SHOOTING. Senior White House adviser Karl Rove phones Bush and informs him that Cheney was the one who fired the weapon.

Sat Feb 11 7:00 PM CST SECRET SERVICE CALLS THE SHERIFF. The supervisor of the McAllen Field Office notifies the Kenedy County Sheriffs Department. The vice president is not to be interviewed until Sunday morning. "They made arrangements at the sheriff's request to have deputies come out and interview the vice president the following morning at 8 A.M.," according to Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren.

Later Saturday evening OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SHERIFFS OFFICE ARE TURNED AWAY FROM THE RANCH. At least one Sheriffs Deputy showed up at the ranchs front gate and asked to speak to Cheney but was turned away by the Secret Service. Gilbert San Miguel, Chief Deputy Sheriff, later said that alcohol was not a factor in the shooting, but he would not elaborate about how that had been determined.

All Saturday evening NO ONE CONSIDERS NOTIFYING THE PRESS. Katharine Armstrong, one of the owners of the ranch, who had witnessed the shooting, said no one discussed notifying the public of the accident Saturday because they were so consumed with the medical condition of the gunshot victim.

Sun Feb 12 5:00 AM CST (6:00 AM EST) WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY IS TOLD WHO DID THE SHOOTING. Presidential spokesman Scott McClellan learns that Cheney had fired the weapon. He says he urged the vice presidents office to get the story out "as quickly as possible."

Sun Feb 12 8:00 AM CST SHERIFFS OFFICE GETS TO SEE CHENEY. He was interviewed by the Sheriff of Kenedy County at the ranch where the shooting took place.

All day Sunday THE WHITE HOUSE NEVER INFORMS THE NATIONAL MEDIA.

Sun Feb 12, late morning RANCH OWNER NOTIFIES THE PRESS. Katharine Armstrong calls a reporter at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. She said the family realized in the morning that it would be a story and decided to call the local newspaper.

Sun Feb 12 12:00 NOON CST (4:00 PM EST) VICE PRESIDENTS OFFICE CONFIRMS THE STORY. Only after journalists called to ask about the report on the Corpus Christi Caller-Times website did Cheneys office confirm the story. This was about 18 hours after the shooting.

Mon Feb 13, morning CHENEY SPEAKS TO BUSH DIRECTLY. At the regularly scheduled Monday morning briefing, Cheney speaks to Bush about the shooting, reportedly for the first time.

Mon Feb 13, later in the morning CONTENTIOUS WHITE HOUSE BRIEFING. Presidential spokesman Scott McClellan faces dozens of questions from a combative White House press corps upset that news had been withheld, and that it was announced by a private citizen rather than the White House or Cheneys office. One reporter asked: "Is it appropriate for a private citizen to be the person to disseminate the information that the Vice President of the United States has been has shot someone?"

COMMENTARY

Hunters are not required to announce their presence to their hunting partners. To do so would alert the intended prey. Hunters are expected to know what they are shooting at before they pull the trigger. This is why they wear bright orange vests.

The shooting of a human being at close range with a 28-gauge shotgun can be viewed as assault with a deadly weapon. Even if the shooting was accidental, a jury might find it negligent. The failure of the vice-president to report the shooting, and his refusal to be questioned for 14 hours, leave forever unanswered the question of his condition at the time of the shooting.

Sheriffs Deputies were turned away at the front gate by Secret Service agents when they attempted to question Vice President Cheney. How can this not constitute interference with the duties of a police officer? The Deputy says that alcohol was not a factor in the shooting, but how would he know?

If the shooter had been Ted Kennedy, the media would accuse him of assault with a deadly weapon, failure to report the incident, leaving the scene of the crime, obstruction of justice, and interstate flight to avoid prosecution.

Now that the vice-president is safely ensconced in Washington, one hopes that he will not fight extradition if Texas authorities decide to press charges.

I am not mollified by reading that the vice-president had a valid hunting license. I was unaware that it was open season on Texas millionaires.

ALL gunshot wounds treated at a hospital in Texas are reported to the authorities accident or not.

So Cheney and Co had to report this incident.

But I would also like to know why Cheney could not speak with authorities Sat night. He did not go with Mr. Whittington to the hospital. Others took care of getting medical help quick as possible.

If this doesn't force even die hard Bush/Cheney fans to wonder about their idols, they are really lost forever. Cheney feels he doesn't need to explain himself or his conduct.

Republicans spent $7,000,000 to find out about Clinton's sex life but are scandalized when we the public want to know about wire taps, leaking CIA agents, and a shooting.

Just amazing !!!

There's a very good reason why they tried to withold the story, and why they are trying to downplay it.

This incident completely blows Cheney's carefully crafted image, the one that was created for his core supporters.

Instead of looking like the rural master of his environment, this incident makes him appear to be what he truly is: a weekend hunter up from the city, who shoots at cows and his own foot.

Sorry Cheney, this error can't be fixed.

Nonsense.

Idiot conservatives called CBS 3 or 4 years ago in droves to protest the airing of a Reagan movie they did not see but heard that it would not portray Reagan well. They threatened a boycott of CBS and the advertisers.

That did not take long to get CBS to shift the movie over to showtime which had a much smaller viewership.

Many progressives called Sinclair Broadcasting in droves before the 2004 election threatening a boycott of them and their advertisers if they would not take a movie smearing John Kerry off the air. It worked quickly.

If we can get a movie off Sinclair stations then whey can't we call companies in droves that give money to the Republican party and their candidates and Republican senators and representatives and threaten them with a boycott in order to get a comprehensive progressive agenda passed?

Why?

People must CALL their senators and representative AND these companies in droves making the connection between a boycott of these companies and a demand that they want a progressive agenda passed in congress.

Sun Feb 12 3:00 PM CST (4:00 PM EST) VICE PRESIDENTS OFFICE CONFIRMS THE STORY. Only after journalists called to ask about the report on the Corpus Christi Caller-Times website did Cheneys office confirm the story, nearly 24 hours after the shooting.

Mon Feb 13, morning CHENEY SPEAKS TO BUSH DIRECTLY. At the regularly scheduled Monday morning briefing, Cheney speaks to Bush about the shooting, reportedly for the first time.

Mon Feb 13, 12:00 noon EST CONTENTIOUS WHITE HOUSE BRIEFING. Presidential spokesman Scott McClellan faces dozens of questions from a combative White House press corps upset that news had been withheld, and that it was announced by a private citizen rather than the White House or Cheneys office. One reporter asked: "Is it appropriate for a private citizen to be the person to disseminate the information that the Vice President of the United States has been has shot someone?" McClellan responded: "Thats one way to provide information to the public.

Chappaquiddick

On July 18, 1969, after a party on Chappaquiddick Island near the island of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, Kennedy, allegedly intoxicated, a claim which he denies, drove away with Mary Jo Kopechne as a passenger in his 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88. According to Kennedy, he made a wrong turn onto an unlit road that led to Dike Bridge (also spelled Dyke Bridge), a wooden bridge that was angled obliquely to the road, and drove over its side, which had no guardrail. The car plunged into tide-swept Poucha Pond (at that location a channel) and landed upside down under the water. Kopechne died, but as no autopsy was performed, precise cause of death is unknown. Kennedy claims he tried several times to swim down to reach her, then rested on the bank for several minutes before returning on foot to the Lawrence Cottage, where the party attended by Kopechne and other "boiler room girls" had occurred.

Joseph Gargan (Kennedy's cousin) and party co-host Paul Markham then returned to the pond with Kennedy to try to rescue Kopechne. Though there was a telephone at the Lawrence Cottage, nobody called for help. When their efforts to rescue Kopechne failed, Kennedy decided to return to his hotel on the mainland. As the ferry had shut down for the night, Kennedy swam the short distance back to Edgartown.

Kennedy discussed the accident with several people, including his lawyer, before he contacted the police.

The next morning (July 19, 1969) the police recovered Kennedy's car. Kopechne's body was discovered by diver John Farrar, who observed that a large amount of air was released from the car when it was righted in the water, and that the trunk, when opened, was remarkably dry. These observations and others have led some to believe that Kopechne had not drowned, but suffocated in an air pocket within the car.

The incident quickly blossomed into a scandal. Kennedy was criticized for allegedly driving drunk, for failing to save Kopechne, for failing to summon help immediately and for contacting not the police but rather his lawyer first.

Kennedy entered a plea of guilty to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury. He received a sentence of two months in jail, which was suspended. An Edgartown grand jury later reopened the investigation but did not return an indictment.

CORRECTION TO REVISED TIMELINE

Sat Feb 11 6:15 PM CST SUNSET AT THE RANCH. According to the Old Farmers Almanac, sunset was at 6:15 PM CST. If the shooting took place at 5:50 PM, this would have been only 25 minutes before sunset. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website, legal shooting hours for all game animals and nonmigratory game birds are from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

(My previous posting said "one-half hour before sunset." I must have transcribed the rules, incorrectly, rather than copying and pasting them. My sincere apologies for the error).

OBSERVATIONS ON DICK CHENEYS INTERVIEW ON FOX NEWS

Richard Hayes Phillips

Canton, New York

Thursday, February 16, 2006, 2:30 PM EST

All of the following observations are based on a comparison between:

(1) the text of Dick Cheneys interview on Fox News, posted at http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/cheney_interview_text

and

(2) the timeline I have established and posted on the BradBlog at https://bradblog.com/archives/00002409.htm

THERE MAY HAVE BEEN MANY WITNESSES

Cheney said: The five of us who were in that party were together all afternoon. Nobody was drinking, nobody was under the influence. He also said: There were three of us who had gotten out of the vehicle and walked up on a covey of quail that had been pointed by the dogs. Only three members of the hunting party have been identified: Vice President Dick Cheney, the shooter; Harry Whittington, the shooting victim; and Pamela Willeford, Ambassador to Switzerland. Remaining in the vehicle was Katharine Armstrong, one of the owners of the ranch, who witnessed the shooting and reported it to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times the next morning. Who was the fifth person in the hunting party?

Cheney said: and of course, theres this entourage behind us, all the cars and so forth that follow me around when Im out there. How many of these cars were in a position to witness the shooting? Who were the drivers and passengers? Do they have any knowledge of the amount of alcohol consumed?

CHENEY HAD CONSUMED ALCOHOL ON THE DAY OF THE SHOOTING

Q: Was anybody drinking in this party?

A: No. You don't hunt with people who drink. That's not a good idea. We had ...

Q: So he wasn't, and you weren't?

A: Correct. I had a beer at lunch. Then we took about an hourlong tour of ranch. We didn't go back into the field to hunt quail until about, oh, sometime after 3:00 p.m.

Cheney admits to drinking beer about an hour before going back into the field to hunt quail. We have only his word that he had only one beer, some four hours before the shooting. In my experience, every man who talks of going to the bar says that he is going out for a beer. I do not take this as confirmation that he had only one.

As reported in the timeline posted on the BradBlog: At least one Sheriffs Deputy showed up at the ranchs front gate and asked to speak to Cheney but was turned away by the Secret Service. Gilbert San Miguel, Chief Deputy Sheriff, later said that alcohol was not a factor in the shooting, but he would not elaborate about how that had been determined. According to the Secret Service, they had already made arrangements at the sheriff's request to have deputies come out and interview the vice president the following morning at 8 A.M.

Most of us, in the immediate aftermath of a gunshot accident involving a human victim, do not get to decide when to be questioned by the sheriff, and when or whether to submit to a blood alcohol test.

A spokesman at Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, when asked if Whittingtons blood had been tested for alcohol, declined to comment. (National Public Radio, Wednesday, February 15, 2006, 2:03 PM EST)

CHENEY FIRED TOWARD THE SETTING SUN

Cheney said: But the bird flushed and went to my right, off to the west. I turned and shot at the bird, and at that second I saw him (Whittington) fall, basically. It had happened so fast. He was dressed in orange, he was dressed properly, but he was also ... There was a little bit of a gully there, so he was down a little ways before land level, although I could see the upper part of his body when ... I didn't see it at the time I shot, until after Id fired. And the sun was directly behind him that affected the vision, too, Im sure.

According to the Old Farmers Almanac, sunset was at 6:15 PM CST. According to a partial timeline established by MSNBC, the shooting occurred at 5:50 PM CST. This would have been only 25 minutes before sunset. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website, it is legal in Texas to hunt for nonmigratory game birds until one-half hour after sunset. But hunters should know the risk of being blinded by the sun when daylight is already growing dim. As a professional trail maintenance worker, I know that I am much more prone to accident and injury shortly before sunset, due to decreased visibility.

If Whittington was standing in a gully, and only the upper part of his body was visible, then the unintended target area (face, neck and chest) were one to three feet above the ground. Therefore, the sun must have been very low. This tends to confirm that the shooting took place at 5:50 PM CST, as reported by MSNBC, rather than 5:30 PM CST, as initially reported.

Hunters are expected to know what they are shooting at before they pull the trigger. This is why they wear bright orange vests. Cheney said it well: You can't blame anybody else. Im the guy who pulled the trigger and shot my friend.

IMMEDIATE TIMELINE CLARIFIED

Cheney said: Ive always got a medical team, in effect, covering me wherever I go. I had a physicians assistant with me that day. Within a minute or two he was on the scene administering first aid. We also had an ambulance at the ranch, because one always follows me around wherever I go. And they were able to get the ambulance there and within about 30 minutes we had him on his way to the hospital.

This confirms part of the timeline reported on the BradBlog:

Sat Feb 11 5:50-6:20 PM CST WHITTINGTON IS TREATED ON THE SCENE. Cheneys traveling medical detail treats Whittington for half an hour before evacuating him.

Sat Feb 11 6:20 PM CST SOMEBODY CALLS AN AMBULANCE. Whittington is reportedly transported to Christus Spohn Hospital in Kingsville, Texas, reportedly in an ambulance on standby for the vice president.

Cheney continued: I would say he was in Kingsville in the emergency room probably within, oh, less than an hour after they left the ranch. It is not clear how Cheney knows this, as he did not go with Whittington to the hospital: I had told my physicians assistant to go with him, but the ambulance is crowded and they didnt need another body in there. And so we loaded up and went back to ranch headquarters, basically. By then, its about 7:00 p.m. at night.

This clarifies part of the timeline reported on the BradBlog, revised as follows:

Sat Feb 11 7:20 PM CST WHITTINGTON REACHES EMERGENCY ROOM IN KINGSVILLE. As reported by Brad Friedman, Whittington was brought first to a hospital near the ranch. This would be the Christus Spohn Hospital in Kingsville, Texas. According to Cheney, Whittington was probably in the emergency room within an hour after leaving the ranch, which would place his arrival time at about 7:20 PM CST.

Sat Feb 11 8:15 PM CST WHITTINGTON ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL IN CORPUS CHRISTI. As reported by Brad Friedman, Whittington was then evacuated by helicopter to the Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he presently resides. Whittington was admitted at 8:15 PM CST, according to Yvonne Wheeler, Communications Director at Christus Spohn.

Footnote: According to the Christus Spohn Health System website, there are six hospital locations: one each in Alice, Beeville, and Kingsville, and three in Corpus Christi.

http://www.christusspohn.org/locations_main.htm

CHENEY EXPLAINS WHY HE DID NOT REPORT THE SHOOTING

Q: What thought did you give that evening to how this news should be transmitted?

A: One of the things Id learned over the years was first reports are often wrong and you need to really wait and nail it down. We really didnt know until Sunday morning that Harry was probably going to be OK, that it looked like there hadnt been any serious damage to any vital organ. And thats when we began the process of notifying the press.

Q: But there were some things you knew. I mean, you knew the man had been shot, you knew he was injured, you knew he was in the hospital, and you knew you'd shot him.

A: Correct.

WHEN CHENEY CONTACTED THE WHITE HOUSE

Q: Had you discussed this with colleagues in the White House, with the president, and so on?

A: I did not. The White House was notified, but I did not discuss it directly, myself. I talked to Andy Card, I guess it was Sunday morning.

Q: Not until Sunday morning? Was that the first conversation you'd had with anybody in the at the White House?

A: Yes.

Q: And did you discuss this with Karl Rove at any time, as has been reported?

A: No, Karl talks to I dont recall talking to Karl. Karl did talk with Katharine Armstrong

Q: And what about when did you first when, if ever, have you discussed it with the President?

A: I talked to him about it yesterday, or Monday first on Monday, and then on Tuesday, too.

Q: There is reporting to the effect that some in the White House feel you kind of well, look at what Scott McClellan went through the last couple days. Theres some sense and perhaps not unfairly so that you kind of hung him out to dry. How do you feel about that?

A: Well, Scott does a great job and its a tough job. Its especially a tough job under these conditions and circumstances. Scott McClellan and Dan Bartlett urged us to get the story out. The decision about how it got out, basically, was my responsibility.

Q: That was your call.

A: That was my call.

Q: All the way.

A: All the way. It was recommended to me Katharine Armstrong wanted to do it, as she said, and I concurred in that; I thought it made good sense.

This confirms timeline reported on the BradBlog:

Sat Feb 11 6:30 PM CST (7:30 PM EST) PRESIDENT BUSH IS TOLD OF THE SHOOTING. Bush and senior aides, including presidential spokesman Scott McClellan, are first told by staff in the Situation Room that there had been an accident in Cheneys hunting party. White House sources say Bush himself was notified by Chief of Staff Andrew Card.

Sat Feb 11 7:00 PM CST (8:00 PM EST) BUSH IS TOLD WHO DID THE SHOOTING. Karl Rove, senior White House adviser and Deputy Chief of Staff, phones Bush and informs him that Cheney was the one who fired the weapon. Rove had called Katharine Armstrong to ask about the shooting incident.

Sun Feb 12 5:00 AM CST (6:00 AM EST) WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY IS TOLD WHO DID THE SHOOTING. Presidential spokesman Scott McClellan learns that Cheney had fired the weapon. He says he urged the vice presidents office to get the story out as quickly as possible.

Mon Feb 13, morning CHENEY SPEAKS TO BUSH DIRECTLY. At the regularly scheduled Monday morning briefing, Cheney speaks to Bush about the shooting, reportedly for the first time.

None of these people not Andrew Card, Karl Rove, Scott McClellan, or President Bush learned of the shooting from Dick Cheney himself.

CHENEY DEFENDS HIS DECISION TO LET KATHARINE ARMSTRONG BREAK THE STORY

A: Katharine suggested, and I agreed, that she would go make the announcement, that is that shed put the story out. And I thought that made good sense for several reasons. First of all, she was an eyewitness. She'd seen the whole thing. Secondly, shed grown up on the ranch, shed hunted there all of her life. Third, she was the immediate past head of the Texas Wildlife and Parks Department, the game control commission in the state of Texas, an acknowledged expert in all of this.

And she wanted to go to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, which is the local newspaper, covers that area, to reporters she knew. And I thought that made good sense because you can get as accurate a story as possible from somebody who knew and understood hunting. And then it would immediately go up to the wires and be posted on the Web site, which is the way it went out. And I thought that was the right call.

Q: What do you think now?

A: Well, I still do. I still think that the accuracy was enormously important. I had no press person with me. I didnt have any press people with me. I was there on a private weekend with friends on a private ranch. In terms of who I would contact to have somebody who would understand what were even talking about, the first person that we talked with at one point, when Katharine first called the desk to get hold of a reporter, didnt know the difference between a bullet and a shotgun a rifle bullet and a shotgun. And there are a lot of basic important parts of the story that required some degree of understanding. And so we were confident that Katharine was the right one, especially because she was an eyewitness and she could speak authoritatively on it. She probably knew better than I did what had happened since I'd only seen one piece of it.

The following editorial is from The Washington Post, February 14, 2006:

What makes little sense, however, was the White Houses decision, according to press secretary Scott McClellan, to defer disclosure of the shooting incident to the vice presidents office, and that offices decision to further defer to the owners of the ranch. Neither Mr. Cheney nor the White House gets to pick and choose when to disclose a shooting. Saturdays incident required immediate public disclosure a fact so elementary that the failure to act properly is truly disturbing in its implications.

This from the Houston Chronicle, February 14, 2006:

The administrations failure to alert news media to a weekend shooting accident in which Vice President Dick Cheney pulled the trigger has magnified a minor incident into something far more substantial: a symbol of the disdain shown by the nations top leaders for timely and truthful public disclosure....

Cheney should have flown with the victim to the hospital and then held a news conference to fully disclose the incident and take responsibility for his part in it. Instead, he headed back to his administrative bubble in Washington and let his aides pass the buck until it finally reached a Texas ranchwoman with common sense and a refreshing respect for public disclosure and the role of the news media.

And this from the Albany (N.Y.) Times-Union, February 14, 2006:

Accidents happen. But the vice president, of all people, should know how to properly respond to one.

This is a coverup plain and simple. Anytime Bush or Cheney or any of their friends get into trouble, it gets covered up. Here is the evidence:

Why in the world were the cops not allowed in until 8AM the next morning? Any "normal" person would have to answer police questioning immediately. Could it be that there was alcohol involved? I'm not saying Cheney was plastered, I'm sure he wasn't. But it's still not legal to drink and then go hunting.

Everyone knows that reporters come along to every outing for "publicity" purposes. What happened to the one on this trip? Where is his/her story? Oh yeah... it is being stifled too.

I heard there were 3 men and 3 women in Cheney's hunting party? Isn't Cheney married? What about the other guys?

The newspapers reported some lady ambassador, that Armstrong ranch owner lady and her sister were in Cheney's party. They said this was a drive and shoot event. In the car, get outa the car and shoot. That just plain sounds odd to me.

That is the last thing on earth that any lady in my family would want to do.

Again, two or three married men, 3 nice looking women (one ambassador and two ranch owners), guns, lunch and beer at an all day (night??) event......... my wife wouldn't buy that story.

Cheney, in an interview, said shooting his friend accidentally was the worst day of his life. Sadly, this experience probably does not make Cheney more empathetic to our soldiers in Iraq who have killed many innocent people in the course of fighting in Iraq in a war for which Cheney is largely responsible.

It's a pleasure to present You Mr. Richard Hayes Phillips:

"Sat Feb 11 7:00 PM CST SECRET SERVICE CALLS THE SHERIFF. The supervisor of the

McAllen Field Office notifies the Kenedy County Sheriffs Department. The vice president

is not to be interviewed until Sunday morning. "They made arrangements at the sheriff's

request to have deputies come out and interview the vice president the following morning

at 8 A.M.," according to Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren"(Richard Hayes Phillips).

And. Do shoot when the sun sets!

The time Cheney shot the human body seems in the bounds of the last half-hour of sunset

at the ranch(Kenedy County(?)) where the shooting took place. With other words:In the

last 20 minutes!

Reply to the actual time of shooting & sun-sets :

"The report says the shooting happened at 5:30pm.

So there may be another set of conflicting reports"(Posted by: Dee Pb.D at February 16,

2006 02:39 PM).

Proof & Augmentation:

"In an interview with Fox News, Mr. Cheney acknowledged drinking one beer with his

lunch. He said the hunt began several hours later. The shooting occurred around 5:50

p.m.(SIC!), according to the U.S. Secret Service, which traveled with the vice

president"("Cheney cleared in shooting", 02:10 PM CST on Thursday, February 16 2006, by

Michaels, Dave,The Dallas Morning News Corporation(compare: www.dallasnews.com)).

Reply to there are conflicting statement_Facts :

There is a unique Sunset at 18.10( Local Time ).

Calculation: 18.10 MINUS 17.50 equals 20 minutes QED

To your_blogs:I assume You at

least know that Armstrong(the

ranch owner) as President of

the Texas game hunting & forest

association edicted the law

that it is forbidden to hunt

in the last half sunset hour.

"Authorities did not investigate the accident until the next day. The Texas Parks and

Wildlife accident report, dated two days after the shooting, checked "No" on the

question of whether Cheney appeared under the influence of intoxicants. It did not

address whether the hunters had been drinking at all. (The report also included a

diagram depicting Whittington's wounds on the wrong side of his body.)"(Calvin Woodward

& Nancy Benac The Associated Press, Washington Post, Saturday 18th february 2006).
